Hyundai i20, Tucson and Creta vehicles in a South African city

Hyundai i20, Tucson and Creta infotainment specifications differ by model year and derivative. Some newer South African Hyundais include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory, while other compatible versions use a wired USB connection. That difference determines whether a wireless adapter is useful.

The cable test gives the clearest answer

Connect a compatible phone to the vehicle’s USB data port. If the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto dashboard opens, the Hyundai already supports the wired system and can usually be converted to wireless. If it already connects wirelessly, no adapter is needed. If only Bluetooth audio appears, wired CarPlay or Android Auto has not yet been confirmed.

Hyundai i20

Hyundai Automotive South Africa states that the refreshed i20 launched locally in 2024 links wirelessly to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Owners of that configuration do not need a conversion adapter. Earlier i20s and different infotainment specifications should be checked individually; some may use a wired connection and some may not include smartphone projection.

Hyundai Tucson

Tucson technology changes between generations and derivatives. Look for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in the connectivity menu and test the correct USB port. If the interface starts only after the cable is connected, the adapter can remove that everyday cable step.

Hyundai Creta

Creta owners should avoid relying only on the vehicle’s model name or touchscreen size. Confirm the actual smartphone-projection feature. A touchscreen with Bluetooth is not automatically a CarPlay or Android Auto system.

  • It converts an existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto connection to wireless.
  • It pairs once and then reconnects automatically on later drives.
  • It does not install CarPlay or Android Auto into an unsupported radio.
  • It does not improve a damaged USB port or replace the vehicle’s infotainment hardware.

  2. Use a data cable—not a charge-only cable—and accept the phone and dashboard prompts.
  3. Confirm that the full Apple CarPlay or Android Auto screen appears.
  4. If uncertain, record the model, year and derivative for a manual check.
