USB-A and USB-C describe the physical connector, not whether a port supports CarPlay or Android Auto. A vehicle can contain several charging ports, while only one carries the data connection used by the infotainment system. Choosing the right wireless adapter therefore starts with the same port currently used for wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto.
How to identify USB-A and USB-C
- USB-A is the larger rectangular connector traditionally found in vehicles.
- USB-C is smaller, rounded and reversible, so it can be inserted either way up.
Use the port that successfully launches wired CarPlay or Android Auto now. A charging-only USB socket will not work merely because the adapter fits.
What the mini adapter does

Quick compatibility checklist
- Connect the phone by cable and confirm that CarPlay or Android Auto starts.
- Identify the exact USB port and connector used for that working connection.
- Select USB-A or USB-C to match that port.
- Confirm the phone software is compatible: iOS 10 or later for the listed CarPlay support, or Android 11 or later for the listed Android Auto support.
If the wired system does not start, a wireless adapter cannot solve that underlying compatibility issue.
